Session 2: Diversity

Book: Chapter 3

Workbook: Lesson 3

Welcome to Session 2 of the We Will Not Be Silenced Online Course.

This session only covers one chapter. This will allow you more time to study, read, contemplate and pray about the topic of diversity and racism.

In Chapter 3, Pastor Lutzer expands on Cultural Marxism and introduces the many faces of equality, the quest for social justice, Critical Race Theory, white guilt, education and wokeness, as well as the role of family, and the church operating in a toxic culture. As we move forward with this chapter, proceed with grace. These topics may give rise to many emotions. Ask God to help you learn and study with a heart of tenderness. In the video, Pastor Lutzer expresses that his heart is for the unity of the church and that :we don't have to agree on everything in order to affirm our unity in Jesus Christ.”

Genesis 1:27 teaches us that we are all born in the image of God. What a beautiful thing! This truth applies to every person on the planet. We are image-bearers of Christ and we are equal. When approaching the cross in humility, we are given an opportunity to unite in Christ to make things better in the world. Because of Jesus, reconciliation is possible!

As you work through the book and workbook, remember Pastor Lutzer’s hope for us all from the video session:

  • Unity within the body of Christ is not just critical, it is possible.

  • Be mindful of ideologies that limit or deny opportunities for reconciliation; with Jesus, reconciliation is always possible.

Each of us can play a part in increasing unity. What is your part?

Scriptures to Meditate On

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own site. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. – Romans 12:16–18
