Session 1: How We Got Here

Book: Chapters 1 & 2

Workbook: Chapters 1 & 2

Welcome to Session 1 of the We Will Not Be Silenced Online Course.

Prior to watching this video session, we recommend reading through chapters 1 and 2 of the book.

Chapter 1 provides an overview of the forces at work to dismantle the core values that built America. Chapter 2 looks at strategies being used to delegitimize our Judeo-Christian past in order to make way for a wholly secular and Godless society. Pastor Lutzer asks in the video, “How is history interpreted from a Marxist point of view to destroy our Judeo Christian heritage?' He proposes several ideas to answer this question in the first two chapters of the book.

After reading through the chapters, watch the videos and make your way through the We Will Not Be Silenced workbook. It’s critical to remember what Pastor Lutzer says:

“I write not so much to reclaim the culture as to reclaim the church … Most critically, this book is also a call to prayer accompanied by deep repentance…This book is intended to clarify the threats the church faces today, but this information will be of no value apart from an earnest desire to desperately seek God with accompanying obedience and compassion”. (p. 36—37)

As you reflect on the chapters and on the input from the video, how can you earnestly seek God? After seeking Him, what action steps might He be asking you to take with great compassion?

Scripture to Meditate On

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” —Psalm 27:1

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” —Matthew 5:14—16
