Session 5: Capitalism, Socialism and Radical Islam

Book: Chapters 7 & 8

Workbook: Lessons 7 & 8

Welcome to Session 5 of the We Will Not Be Silenced Online Course.

If you are at all confused about the definition of capitalism and socialism, Pastor Lutzer does an excellent job defining both words. Not only does he define them, but he lays out the perceived pros and cons according to our culture.

The United States, a capitalistic country, generates greater wealth leading abundance of opportunities and jobs. This fact is one of the many reasons people from all over the world desire to come live in America.

Another opportunity discussed in the video is the opportunity to be generous! America donates $400 billion to charity per year. When followers of Christ talk about money, asking God to help them steward the resources He has entrusted to them is a must!

How can you use what you have to grow the kingdom of God?

Socialism makes an abundance of promises. Reading through the book and workbook will help you make sense of the many ways socialism is destined to fail and why it is harmful to our country.

Radical Islam can be hard to fully understand. Read Chapter 8 carefully and prayerfully. Muslims are not our enemies; they are also God's children. In fact, we should look for opportunities to befriend all people and when an opportunity comes to share Christ, share with love and compassion. Would you be ready to share your faith if asked?

  • When Francis Schaeffer urged us to have “capitalism with compassion”, what was he talking about?

  • One of the main criticisms against capitalism is that it leads to greed. What can Christians do to protect ourselves from succumbing to greed, and thus exhibit the right attitude toward money before the watchful eyes of others?
